Mooloolaba – it’s the postcard destination. A beach-side town wrapped in never-ending activities, food destinations and sunshine. With so many attractions to choose from in Mooloolaba, we have come up with a comprehensive list of the very best this Sunshine Coast town has to offer.
The Best Beach
There really is only one beach in Mooloolaba, but it stretches the entire coastline from central to The Spit, so you won’t ever be lost for a place in the sand.
Many tourists enjoy Mooloolaba main beach, for its location to cafes, shops, and the Mooloolaba Surf Club. However, if you continue along the walking track beside the beach, you will be sure to find a beach access that suits you. The Spit is a popular swimming area for its sheltered from the wind and is close to the famous fisheries where you can buy freshly caught fish and crispy chips – yum!
The Best Shopping
The Esplanade Mooloolaba really does supply the best array of shopping for tourists, with small boutiques and large retailers opening up side by side to coffee shops and cafes. From surf stores to luxury clothing, you will find it all along The Esplanade Mooloolaba.
The Best Barbeque Spots
There are various public barbecue areas along the walkway from Mooloolaba main beach to The Spit, all which are well maintained by Sunshine Coast Council. The most popular, however, is the area at Mooloolaba beach, next to the Mooloolaba Surf Club and public children’s playground.
The Best Fishing Spots
The Wharf at Mooloolaba is probably the best spot for fishing in Mooloolaba but isn’t popular among locals. Fishermen will find bream, cod and the off Mangrove Jack here.
The Best Walks and Bike Trails
If long flat tracks and salty air is your ideal environment for exercise, then Mooloolaba provides the goods. The trail from The Esplanade to The Spit stretches more than two kilometres and sits side by side to the relaxing woosh of the ocean. There are no hills, nor obstacles, but it’s a pleasant and challenging walk, depending on your pace. The track is also suitable for bikes.
The Best Markets
Held every second and fourth Sunday at The Esplanade, near the Surf Club, these markets feature an eclectic mix of great crafts, arts, experiences, and food. The new Mooloolaba Market is more than just a collection of stalls selling dream catchers.
The Best Playgrounds
There are three big playgrounds for children in Mooloolaba, all featuring different obstacles and challenges to keep the kiddies entertained.
The first is next to the Mooloolaba Surf Club, overlooking the beach. This is a very popular spot and is often quite busy, so it’s good to go in the morning or late afternoon.
Further along the track, opposite the Wharf is a pirate ship themed park, with relatively new equipment, it is a safe and shaded spot for some playground fun.
The last playground is at The Spit and is situated in the middle of the carpark at the fisheries end. This area is quite large and features undercover gazebos for families looking to enjoy a picnic as well as a play.
